Free Job Hunting Readiness Program - at Central Library Cape Town.                                  Saturdays 9:30am to 10:45am with Mike Klink in partnership with Central Library and                     The Friends of Central Library (FOCAL). 


Free English Competency

Conversational English & Office English & Using Scrabble as a learning tool.

Free English competency program runs - at Central Library  Cape Town.

Mid-January to the first Saturday in December .


Free business mentorship

The Biz support program is focused on improving competency using various methods and strategies for the prestart up and start-up business candidate to be coached and mentored into the next steps in the business readiness journey.

Poetry Circle and workshops

The Poetry collective hosts Readings, Poetry Slams and Workshops run by Mike Klink .

It runs in Central Library from the first Saturday in February to the first Saturday in November, 11am to 12pm .

Poetry Circle Networking 

The Poetry collective that hosts Readings, Poetry Slams and Workshops.

It runs in Central Library from the first Saturday in February to the first Saturday in November, 12pm to 1245pm.

Job Hunting Readiness

Sign up at the FOCAL sales desk Tuesday, Friday & Saturday.
We address One module per Saturday
Program Introduction &; Overview Starts 18 January 2025 at 930am.

Program Modules:

● Job Hunting Skills: How and Where to look for Work and looking at
job advertisements’ and looking at the vocabulary being used by
potential employers.
● CV Development with examples
● Cover Letter Development with examples
● Communication – Types of Communication in the World of Work
● Be Your Brand for your Career - Your Personal Image vs
Professional Image
● Job Interview Preparation – The Basic tools that are needed when
preparing for an interview
● Questions and Answer Management –Practical – Types of
Questions in Interviews and how to manage yourself and the relevant
questions professionally.
● Mock Interview (The Mock Interview is a summation of the program
where the candidate applies for a Mock Position via email or hand in to
assess competency).

Free Start up Biz Support by appointment only on a Tuesday and Friday
mornings from 9am to 1pm. 20 Minutes per appointment. T.C’s

Free English Competency

The free English competency Program welcomes patron attendance looking to improve their English language competency.

Candidates are encouraged to read aloud from library resources and discuss content. Attendees are encouraged to apply for a free public library card. Free audio books are provided for adults and children on request.

Free Business Support

The program is aligned to prestart up, startup business candidates and the unemployed and those in career transition.

Candidates are coached and mentored on how to create and improve their Business Profile, Business Plan and Business Pitch with examples. Young African Leadership Work Book 1, 2 and 3 are priority tools in development. See attached.


Program objectives:

a) Create a business plan with examples

b) Create a business pitch with examples

c) Create a business profile with examples


Library patrons and visitors are invited to free Biz support through site visits, word of mouth and programs attendance. Appointments are made calendar dependent to address face to face and virtual meetings to address mentorship, coaching and support. Patrons are invited to use their own devices and access free Wi-Fi in Central Library and SmartCape to address research and online training to address their business skill development. Patrons work at their own pace.

Poetry Circle and workshops

FOCAL members David Kapp and Dr, Carol Edson are regular poets sharing their works. Patrons from different demographic backgrounds from Africa to the USA and UK expand their creative reading culture and present their work in a Poetry Circle. Poets express their works in English, Afrikaans, French, Khoi-Khoi, Swahili and Rap and other global cultures and languages as examples to promote an inclusive culture.

The program also collaborates with other poets and collectives to address workshops.

Attendees are encouraged to apply for a free public library card.

Poetry Circle Networking Program

The Poetry collective that hosts Readings, Poetry Slams and Workshops run by Mike Klink also hosts a networking event after the Poetry Circle managed with Fred Christians and Maliekah Duncan of the FOCAL Committee. Poets and patrons chat and network with light refreshments sponsored by FOCAL to foster relationships in the library ecosystem.
